Are Dell Inspiron laptop fans as quiet as Macbook fans?

Firestarter asked:

I will be buying a new laptop soon, and my major concern is the noise created by the laptop computer due to its fan operation. I work in a clinical environment and absolute silence is an absolute requirement at times.

Because of this, I am thinking about buying a Macbook because a co-worker has one and it is extremely quiet. However, I'd rather not spend this much on a laptop computer when I can get the same power in a PC for half to two-thirds the cost of the Macbook.
I'm hoping that you guys can tell me how much noise the  Dell Inspiron makes and if its fan is quiet? I'd also rather get the Dell because it seems like replacement laptop batteries are available for them from generic battery manufacturers.

Most laptop computers today are pretty quiet and run cooler than the older ones. They are just designed all the way around this way, particularly in the CPU design.

I would stop by BestBuy and take a look at the Dell laptops that they have on display. First look for one that meets your requirements and then check out the noise level. If you’re lucky, it will be on sale. If not, check the Dell site to get its online price and look for some Dell discount coupons.

Another way to go is to check out the specs and take a look at the noise ratings of the different laptop comuters. They are rated in decibels (dB). The lower the value the more quiet the laptop computer is.

MacBooks are the quietest laptops out today because they stay pretty cool without the fan running. When the fan does activate, it only runs for about five or ten minutes before it shuts off. If you can afford the extra money, I’d recommend a MacBook over any Windows based laptop. The newer aluminum MacBooks are faster are even quieter that the original white ones.
