Author: Why does the battery icon show up on the bottom of the laptop screen with the other icons when I have the laptop plugged into the charger? Do I have to unplug the laptop from the charger to use it?

I will be buying a new laptop soon, and my major concern is the noise created by the laptop computer due to its fan operation. I work in a clinical environment and absolute silence is an absolute requirement at times.
