Here's a controlled demonstration of a Li-Ion battery pack exploding while it is in a laptop computer. This failure was caused by the heat of the electric griddle, but such laptop battery fires could also result from a bad battery pack or battery cells, a faulty PC or battery pack protection circuit, or a the application of a traumatic force to the battery pack.

Of course it caught on fire, it was running MS Vista. Actually, this is a pretty informative demonstration because I’ve always wondered what a laptop battery fire or explosion looked like. The electric griddle seemed a little extreme, but I guess it was required to trigger the event.

Thanks for the great video. Now I know why the airlines won’t let you put laptops or spare batteries in storage with your luggage.

Man…that video was certainly worth watching. I wonder if that was an OEM or a replacement laptop battery that exploded. I guess that’s and example of the Big Bang Theory! BOOM!!!

Just be glad that it was not your computer and that it was in your lap at the time that it caught fire. I think that the guy’s going to need to shop for replacement laptop batteries.

It looks to me like that guy was playing a war sim game and a shell just hit the ground. I guess some replacement laptop batteries are not as good as others.

I hope those guys have a fan in there because it sure got pretty smoky. I guess all replacement laptop batteries aren’t created equal.
