Replacement Laptop Batteries

My laptop battery only runs my computer for five or ten minutes now. It's an older Gateway laptop and I can't find a replacement laptop battery for it anywhere. I'm going to get an external laptop battery for it, but I don't know what to look for. Your help is appreciated!
